According to reports from InvenGlobal, players involved in the Overwatch APEX Challengers League match fixing incident have been arrested. Luminous Solar manager Seokhun Jin and coach Minjae Baek were both booked by the Cyber Bureau of Gyeonggi Bukbu Provincial Police Agency, without physical restraints.
The team were charged by police for asking their opponents UnLimited to withdraw from the competition’s wildcard qualifier, which was detected by the host company. Deliberate instances of refusing to continue the match were discovered, with a fake medical transcript being received to substitute player Minsuk Son for someone else.
As for the Luminous Solar players, they have been allowed to join other teams, but the team itself has subsequently been banned from all OGN related Leagues, including the League they were competing in. Both the manager and the coach have been permanently suspended from OGN Leagues, whilst UnLimited member Yunsoo Choi has also been disqualified for being involved with the scandal.
Meanwhile, OGN has apologized sincerely to both players and fans for what they describe as a “shameful incident” and will be taking action against any players and coaching staff who conduct such activities going forward, with the intention of bringing the correct and proper level of sportsmanship to the leagues.
Of course, its obviously a disappointing action to see happen which could effectively tarnish the competitions for both fans and players alike, so it is encouraging to hear that OGN will be cracking down on situations such as these when it comes to future leagues.
