The Lord of the Rings Online is going through quite a lot of changes. First, its original developer left, and was taken over by Standing Stone Games. They had a vision of making the game what it could always be, a place to explore all of Middle-Earth and feel like you were part of a true adventure. And though the game originally started off on that path, it fell off soon after. But with the Standing Stone team, the game is getting its first expansion in over four years, and it’s about to get even bigger.
You see, the Standing Stone Games team is dissatisfied with how certain things in the game are right now. Key among them is the Reputation system. Before, Lord of the Rings Online would let you help out certain factions, and in return, players would get rewards, which seems OK on the surface. But frankly, the development team wanted more. They wanted to have a reason for doing it, a true story behind these tasks instead of just a simple quest.
“Yes, you’re helping various factions with their problems and becoming more and more respected in their society, but there was no real progression in a story sense. They respected you more and more, and offered you more rewards, but there was no real sense of a continuing storyline for most of them,” notes one of the Dev Team.
But with four new Allegiances coming, you now have the chance to truly get more story for your time spent. You can help the Dwarves of Erebor, the Elves of Lothlorien, the Hobbits of Bar Thorenion, and even the people of Gondor in Minas Tirith. Through these journeys, you’ll get much more from your experience, and a deeper look into Middle-Earth itself. All of this will be a part of the Mordor expansion when it arrives later this year.
