Riot has released the League of Legends Champion Roadmap for June 2017. In it, they express their desire to focus on updating current champions rather than continually releasing new ones. But, they can’t help but tease a few facts about an upcoming new champion as well.

League of Legends Champion Roadmap June 2017

One major announcement coming from Riot in the Champion Roadmap for June 2017 is that they are done experimenting with class-wide updates on champions. While they feel like class updates, like the recent tank update, were valuable in defining some of the more amorphous classes, and brought changes to long-neglected champions, it also meant that other champions who didn’t fall into set classes were totally left out. They mention Azir, who is always brought out as one of the game’s more unique champions, in everything from looks and lore to mechanics.

The heart of the matter, of course, is the specific champions that the team will focus on first. The post mentions Aatrox, Urgot, and Evelynn as prime targets for upcoming reworks. Plenty of these have been talked about for a while now. Admittedly, the post points out that the Aatrox update won’t be for a while, as they intend to change just about every skill in the Darkin Blade’s kit. But since it is something a lot of players have desired for a while, they wanted to mention it early.

With Urgot, the change might just be coming up a bit faster. The team wants to solidify his role as a ranged tank-style class, which they refer to as a Juggernaut. They want to make sure he stays weird and unique, and confirm he has shotguns for knees.

Lead Producer Reav3 also points out that the Evelynn changes will be more akin to a “modernization” than a total rework, in a move that should be similar to Warwick’s somewhat recent update. They’re hoping to make her more effective and relevant in the contemporary meta environment, and give her some nice new graphics while they’re at it.

Not much is revealed about the new upcoming champion, aside from the fact that it will be an aggressive, shape shifting jungler. Reav3 mentions that it is the first transformation champion since they introduced Gnar, but the way in which this champion transforms “will be unlike any champion we have ever made.”
