The League of Legends Campus Series, ULoL, returns for 2017, and has a lot more teams participating. Registration is open right now, and Riot has already seen the registration of more than 200 teams across North America.
League of Legends Campus Series 2017
Like typical sports in the United States, ULoL represents the collegiate version of the professional circuit, though unlike typical sports, some of the pros are younger than the college players. While last year, there were a total of 32 teams from colleges across the country with registered ULoL clubs, that number has swelled to over 200 for 2017.
Student-run teams at colleges across the nation that have registered will compete for the top seats within their region. Later this year (after finals, hopefully), those top teams will play in the 2017 League of Legends College Championship.
The first match of the 2017 Campus Series season will take place this coming January 23rd, between University of Wyoming and UC Irvine, in California. Fans will be able to stream that match live via http://watch.lolesports.com/.
Club registration is not the only area where League of Legends has been seeing growth. There are now, according to the post, three top seeded schools in the North offering scholarships to League of Legends players. UC Irvine also offers a scholarship for gamers, and has recently dedicated 3,500 square feet to the construction of a fully-equipped esports arena on campus. Riot has offered their support in creating this arena, as well as equipping it with 80 high-powered gaming PCs, open to all students.
