Solely created by developer Chris Wade, Sausage Sports Club is a hilariously bizarre sausage-themed physics party game. Players take control of long-necked animals to compete in various “sports” on a reality sports TV show. Single player, co-op, and multiplayer will be available in the final build. There are currently four playable characters:
“Scout is a happy-go-lucky corgi who got into the Sausage Sports Club mostly because of his charismatic smile. Don’t get me wrong, he likes sports just as much as the next dog, but he’s really here to make friends. Also he loves hot dogs. Like really loves them. A lot.”
“Birdie is a grumpy, conflicted sports bird with a perpetual case of the hiccups. Her hiccups come from an undying love of bread. Whether it’s a loaf-pile or a crumb, Birdie can’t be stopped from gorging herself. It’s a love-hate relationship for sure.”
“Piotr (pronounced like Peter) is a real American. Like so real. Burgers, baseball, all that good stuff. At least, that’s the face he puts on. Really, Piotr is a Russian spy who’s entered the Sausage Sports Club to learn the secrets of sportsmanship and show-business, so he can return home and start an even better Russian version: Kolbasa Komrades.”
“Jaws is an energetic shark who never stops moving. Well, except for yoga breaks. She pretty much learned to play sports out of necessity. Seriously, if she stops moving or stretching for more than a few seconds, her muscles tense up and she can’t move!”
Wade hopes to add at least ten more characters to the roster. Each character will have approximately 2-4 skins, with an estimated total of 50 hats to choose from.
Up to eight players can play together in the various game modes. Currently there are five game modes:
- Soccer – Two teams compete against each other to get the soccer ball into the opposing team’s goal.
- Sumo – Push other players onto the spikes while trying to stay alive yourself.
- Capture the Flag – Up to four teams must secure the flag and bring it back to their base.
- Coinz – Hit other players to steal their coins. The richest player is the winner.
- Paint – Show your team spirit by painting the arena in your team’s color with either the ball or your face.
Five more game modes are promised, with the possibility of even more in the future!
Nobody enjoys waiting to play a game that they’re excited for. Wade understands this point, and attempts to help remedy it by hosting a Twitch stream known as “Twitch Plays Sausage Sports Club”. Every night from 7-9 PM CST during the Kickstarter campaign, Wade will stream interactive bot matches.
Viewers can vote to determine which of the many funky match combinations are played. Additionally, viewers can bet virtual currency on the bots, and support their team by inputting chat commands that either stuns or buffs the bots. Once the Kickstarter campaign ends, the ten viewers with the most currency will receive rewards based on their ranking:
- 1: Opportunity to help Wade design a playable character.
- 2-5: Sausage Sports Club T-shirt.
- 6-10: Digital copy of the game on the launch date.
I highly recommend checking out the stream yourself. It’s the next best thing to playing the game. Who knows? Maybe you’ll end up in the top 10!
Pledge at least $15 to receive a digital copy of Sausage Sports Club once the game is officially released. Anyone that doesn’t want to wait that long to get their hands on the game can pledge $25 or more to gain access into a private beta once it begins. Additional benefits for more eager backers include in-game cosmetics, an exclusive T-shirt, and more!
As of writing this, $9,273 has been pledged of the $15,000 goal. The Kickstarter campaign ends on Tuesday, September 6 at 9 PM EDT. That means you only have 15 days to contribute to the crowdfunding!
