The critically acclaimed Space simulator Elite: Dangerous could be getting role-playing version of the game, thanks to a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. The project is coming to fruition thanks to a team of writers and artists who have collaborated with Spidermind Games.
30 years after the original game, Elite:Dangerous made a return as the seminal space trading game, reinvented for a modern and realistic experience for a new generation of gamers. The nature of the game has now since inspired what Spidermind Games believes is an RPG version of the game.
“Simply put, Elite: Dangerous deserves a role playing game.” The Kickstarter page states. “Not only do the two platforms merge seamlessly together but in the case of Elite: Dangerous it has adopted as one of its core principles the idea of the ‘sandbox’ approach to play. This concept of forging your own path, choosing your own destiny is the foundation on which most role playing games are based and is the key to their success.”
So far, £42,555 of the £45,000 goal has been pledged, as Spidermind look to raise funds to bring the game to a role-playing setting. Several different features are set to be implemented in this RPG version, with a variety of different character backgrounds, karma capabilities to determine your character’s actions, a spaceship of your own with modification features, and the ability to employ your own crew to man your aircraft.
A number of stretch goals will be made available should the goal for the project be exceeded, and a number of rewards for those who do contribute, which can all be found on the official Kickstarter page.
