Overwatch is still in the midst of its one year anniversary, and though fans are happily playing the game and its event for many reasons, there are those who want nothing more than to learn more about what’s coming next for Blizzard’s popular team shooter. The first year had a lot happen in it, like the main roster expanding to 24 characters over the course of a year, Competitive Mode redefining what Overwatch was, and of course new maps, skins, and special events. So, what’s next?
Well, in an interview on Twitch, Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan spoke about some things that players can expect “on the horizon.” The biggest of these is arguably that a new hero is already in the works. The last new Overwatch character was Orisa, which was something players did not expect, so who will the 25th character be? If the fans had their wish, it would be Doomfist, who has been teased numerous times over the first year, and he’s gotten quite a following in the fanbase because of it. He was teased again recently, so could that mean that he (in some version) could be coming soon? Time will tell.
Another big change is that more maps from the main game are coming to Quick Play. This is no doubt meant to help boost the play in the mode and ensure it doesn’t get stale too quickly. But what might be the biggest thing (outside of the character promise) is that Kaplan noted that Overwatch will be getting major content drops every month. What that entails wasn’t made clear, but if it is a major content drop every month? That’s huge.
