Fighting games aren’t often renowned for being the easiest genre of game to play. Looking at extensive rosters, the high amount of players on the competitive scene, and all those combos and moves you have to use, surely in some cases we could use a break once in a while?

I know what a lot of people who start reading this are probably thinking: “Git Gud, scrub” and you’d probably be right in saying so. It does take time and dedication to master fighting games, and Injustice 2 is one of those titles that certainly takes a bit of practice.

As someone who was very keen to get the story mode completed, I hammered it straight from the off, so I was soon familiar with the level of difficultly the AI posed in the game. There wasn’t really a particular character that I struggled against, and certainly don’t remember losing a fight more than once in my playthrough.

Yet from message board posts to my circle of friends, I’ve noticed that there are rumblings of the AI giving players a hard time. This is something I more than sympathize with, particularly with certain titles. I’m god awful at Killer Instinct, for example. Plus the memories of having my backside handed to me on a regular basis by Shao Kahn on the early Mortal Kombat games are something that still keep me awake at night. Ok, I’m exaggerating, but back to the point at hand.

There is the idea that perhaps difficulty could be scaled down when players begin to struggle against AI characters. Some believe that this may already be included in the game, but perhaps not on enough of a scale for it to have enough of an effect. It seems like it could help prevent a lot of frustration if you get stuck, but there is a flipside to this argument.

I’m a firm believer in practice makes perfect, and that is something that kind of goes out of the window if it simply gets easier before you defeat your opponent. Another bonus is that it would be good practice before going online to some extent to get a feel for the game, and how to get yourself out of sticky situations. Not to mention the fact that its pretty demoralising if you’re still getting a kicking when the difficulty is scaled down as low as it can go.

Do you think the difficulty should be scaled down in Injustice 2 after losing to AI opponents? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
