Before the Justice League leaps onto the big screen in November, they’ll be returning to the world of gaming once again in NetherRealm’s Injustice 2, coming to consoles today, on May 16th. This title will pit heroes and villains of the vast and expansive DC Universe against each other.

As a sequel to the previous title, a lot of consequences of Superman’s regime will still echo throughout this narrative. Players will find a much larger roster, and a lot more customization options, including a dedicated armor system that will allow players to equip their preferred fighters with special status effects and abilities based on the armor they’re suited with.

The story also focuses on a new antagonist, and unlike the previous game, will take place entirely within the dystopian Injustice universe. Fans of the Mortal Kombat series will recognize a lot of the core mechanics of Injustice, as the same teams and directors were affiliated with the game’s development.

Fans of some of DC’s more notable characters will have to say a few somber goodbyes, as characters such as Shazam, Doomsday, and Lex Luthor will not be returning as playable characters in this title. Plenty of new heroes have arrived though, many being timed very well with the popularity of certain shows and films. Blue Beetle, Deadshot, and Supergirl are joining the roster to name a few.

Those who enjoy dedicated fighting games, especially those that aren’t afraid to lay on a little extra grit, Injustice 2 may very well be the superhero fighter you’ve been waiting for. Two versions of the game will be available for purchase, with one version having a season’s pass for nine DLC fighters. A certain icy friend from the Mortal Kombat franchise will also be making his way to this installment. This version of the game is being released for 99.99 USD.
