On July 8th of this year, Digital Extremes is hosting their now annual Warframe convention – TennoCon. To promote the cosplay contest that is going on during the convention, Digital Extremes is hosting a “Cosplay on a Budget” contest for those that can’t attend.
Yesterday, during the weekly Prime Time live stream, community producer Rebecca Ford and senior community manager Megan Everett gave the community an example of what a cosplay on a budget looks like by dressing up as Atlas and Alad V, respectively. While it was admittedly entertaining to watch, viewers didn’t get a lot of information on what exactly the contest entailed. Today, thanks to a post on the Warframe website, we know more.
The contest requires all participants to restrict themselves to a $20 USD budget for a Warframe-based costume. Your cosplay does not have to be a character. If you feel creative enough, it could be anything from a kubrow egg to personal life support drop. The developers ask that those that wish to participate either share pictures of their cosplay and a list of materials used in the appropriate thread or tweet it to them on the Warframe Twitter with #CosplayonaBudget.
The rules are fairly simple and they are as follows:
- All participants must be following the Warframe twitter if they are tweeting their cosplay to enter and they must use the #CosplayonaBudget.
- A participant can only submit one cosplay.
- Every submission must include a list of materials used to create it.
- Participants may dress up themselves or someone else but the concept must be the participant’s and it must be Warframe related.
- All cosplay must be limited to the $20 USD budget.
The lucky few that place in the contest will receive in-game Platinum as their prize. The first prize winner will receive 1000 Platinum and have their design attempted on stream by the Prime Time hosts. The second place winner will receive 750 Platinum. Third prize is 500, 4th is 250, and 5th gets 100 Platinum.
The contest will run until the 1st of June. If you are interested in getting involved, make sure you check out the official post on the Warframe website and the forum thread where people are posting their cosplay.
