ICEY, a side-scrolling adventure and meta-game released on Steam November 17, has been receiving rave reviews for its action and its style. Game play is fast-paced. Hesitation leads to defeat. User Niglet says, “the combos are satisfying,” and LunarCainEX calls the combat, “quite fluid and smooth.”
ICEY is You, You are ICEY
One of the other highlights receiving positive feedback is it’s meta content. User Tenjin calls the game, “riddled with humor,” and points out that the game “references H.P. Lovecraft, Silent Hill, The Yellow King, 1984, and more that I’m finding the deeper I go.” Many players are enjoying the interactions with the narrator. Coupled with the quick, easy to learn combat system, users are surprised at how fun the experience of playing the game can be.
User Strayed Lynx also singles out the soundtrack of the game as being amazing. Republican Jesus claims his only complaint is that he wants more. Many, many users follow the request of the in-game narrator and give the game five stars. Clearly, the narrator can be very convincing.
For all the praise the narrator receives, there are some, like EvoEcho, that recommend ignoring the guide. Evo says, “the secrets you get for exploring at your own pace makes it all the more worth it.”
User Mad Futurist seems to sum up what most people are saying. His review simply says, “This is how games should be: FUN.”
ICEY, developed by Shanghai FantaBlade Network Technology Co., Ltd. and published by X.D. Network Inc., is available via Steam for Windows and Mac OS X for US $10.99. Now until November 24, the game is on sale for 10% off.
