Blizzard recently announced that there will be a live StarCraft event taking place in Seoul, South Korea. StarCraft released almost 19 years ago now and this is Blizzard’s way of celebrating. In what they described in the article as a “token of our appreciation for all our passionate fans around the globe,” they will be hosting a two-part live event with some serious cash prizes!
The day will begin in the COEX Auditorium on March 26th, 7:00 CEST where many activities will be taking place on and off the stage during the StarCraft event. Four legendary StarCraft players will be featured during the StarCraft: Brood War show and compete for the top prize of ₩ 10,000,000 (~$8,719 USD). Second place will take home ₩ 5,000,000 (~$4,360 USD), while those that tie for third will each receive ₩ 2,500,000 (~$2,180 USD).
To round up the epic day, two of the best StarCraft II players in the world will go head-to-head in the Global StarCraft League (GSL) championships. Fans are sure to get a good show when either Stats or Ryung battle soO for the title.
The first place winner of the Global StarCraft League finals will receive an impressive ₩ 40,000,000 (~$35,580 USD), 4,000 WCS KR points and a WCS Global Finals Seed. Second place is nothing to sneeze at, though, as they will be getting ₩ 15,000,000 (~$12,590 USD) and 2,800 WCS KR points. Those are quite the prizes!
If you’re like me and can’t quite make it over to Seoul, South Korea, you’ll be happy to know that the entire StarCraft event will be streamed live on Twitch, Youtube, and Afreeca. Blizzard is asking fans to join the festivities whether you can be there physically or not and share your Koprulu sector stories with them and the community. If you’re a StarCraft fan it doesn’t get much better than this so make sure you tune in on March 26th, 7:00 CEST (1:00pm EST, 10:00am PST).
