Earlier today, the popular indie action adventure game Hyper Light Drifter received a 390 MB update.
Developed and published by Heart Machine, Hyper Light Drifter is a successful Kickstarter story that was officially released in March 2016. With a stylish post-apocalyptic world, the title is best described as a mix of The Legend of Zelda due to its progression and Dark Souls for its difficulty. It didn’t receive several nominations and won two of them for nothing.
Earlier today, a 390 MB update was released for the Steam version. There are no patch notes as of the moment this report is published, but users have confirmed through the Steam discussions page that the alternate drifter was officially added to the game. Previously available only for Kickstarter backers, the alternate drifter is a female character unlocked after players finish the game on standard difficulty. Upon selecting “new game,” the option “new game alt” will be available.
This alternate drifter comes packed with a variety of additions such as a weapon of her own, new move sets, additional NPC interactions, and animations featuring her instead of the cover character.
Inspired by creator Alex Preston’s struggles with heart disease, Hyper Light Drifter is a stylish action adventure which tells a silent story punctuated by a brilliant score composed by Disasterpeace (FEZ, It Follows). It was nominated for several awards including Best Independent Game and Best Action/Adventure Game at The Game Awards, but Heart Machine took home Excellence in Visual Art and Audience Award at the Independent Games Festival.
Hyper Light Drifter is available now for Windows PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Ouya.
