Developer Ubisoft gets a lot of flash for “rehashing” certain IPs over and over again. And other times, they get razed for certain updates and DLC. But, there’s no denying that they do know when to branch out and make something special and unique. 2017 was a great year for them in this regard, for they not only released the hit game Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, but also their unique action game For Honor. A game that has been very successful, including amassing 7.5 million players total.
This came right from Ubisoft themselves during an earnings call. Where they revealed the numbers to celebrate the game’s birthday (which is today). What’s more, the game gets 1 million unique players a month, proving that many keep coming back for more action between these classic groups.
So, what is the secret to For Honor’s success? Well, one part is without a doubt that Ubisoft has been making meaningful updates to the game. They’ve added new classes of characters, new maps, new modes, new ways to earn Steel (the game’s currency), and much more.
They’ve kept the content coming through the first year of its life, and it’s not looking to stop anytime soon. Which will no doubt please many players.
The other thing that For Honor has is a unique setting. This is a realm where Vikings, Samurai, and Knights all live, and as such, some very unique battles can be waged between them. There are epic wars that are to be had in the game, as well as brutal 1-v-1 contests to see who is the true warrior. This type of action keeps many players intrigued, and with new characters and modes, there’s a lot of variety to be had.
So congrats Ubisoft on another big success, let’s hope there’s more to come in your future.
