For some video games, they want to make sure that updates, upgrades, new additions, etc. are tested thoroughly by those who are going to play it to ensure that it’s ready for mass release. Thus, they put these updates on public testing areas and thus can see and hear what the player base thinks. For Hereos of the Storm, they do this very often because every update to them is precious and needs to be tested in order to keep the game balanced and fun. A new update to their PTR (public test realm) has gone live and will be there until June 12th.

They ask all Heroes of the Storm players to check it out, and then report anything they find to be out of place, or a bug, or something that might hamper gameplay. Naturally, there are also additions that can be found in this new version of the game.

For example, there’s an all-new hero in the form of Malthael, who will be known to Diablo players as he was a major focus in Diablo III. Well, he’s back, and now in Heroes of the Storm. For those who don’t know him, he was once the “Aspect of Wisdom” in the world of Diablo, but when the Worldstone was destroyed, he became something else:

“In secret, he had resolved to end the Eternal Conflict by becoming a Reaper of Souls and eliminating everything affected by demonic corruption, including humanity.”

Malthael, Diablo III, Heroes of the Storm

As a new character, Malthael has his own unique set of abilities that you can use. Check out the full Patch Notes for a complete breakdown.

Also via this new version of the PTR comes new loading screen art, changes to characters and their abilities, the UI has seen some adjustments, and more. So take part in this new PTR and help improve Heroes of the Storm along the way.
