Since the game’s announcement back in 2015, We Happy Few caught the attention for those who fancied a survival game with a twist. Despite a buggy start on early access, updates brought the game a lot more up to speed. It appears now that we have a release date for the game, but the price tag itself is somewhat strange.
A hike in price is common going from early access into the actual launch of a game. We Happy Few will be no exception to this, as it rises from $29.99 to $50.99 on August 16th. The update which will be arriving on this date is being titled “The Life in Technicolour” update, which offers an AI rework and brand new UI. More information on this is set to be revealed on the 16th.
In a recent statement, Compulsion reiterated that this increase was something that has been planned since it’s crowdfunding origins:
“Since we launched our Kickstarter and released the game on Early Access, We Happy Few has been priced at US$29.99. We have never put it on sale because we believe it isn’t fair for someone to get the game at a lower price than a Kickstarter backer or an Early Access backer while the game is still in development.”
They continued to state that the price increase would also come when the final release arrived, which has seen a rise in just over $20. Further updates on We Happy Few are expected to surface next week.
