With every new day comes the promise of new Kickstarters, and every new Kickstarters comes the promise of something new and special arriving. That is definitely the case in terms of the game known as Metalsona, which is a hand-drawn JRPG that is inspired by the cartoons of the 90’s like Dragon Ball Z. And let us just say, you can tell they mean it when they say that, it’s the real deal.
In this JRPG, you play as Render (enter pun joke here), who gets wrapped up in a game of cat-and-mouse with an evil robot named Ramyaz over a young girl named Elise. Who just so happens to have a robot protector named Big Boy. The trio will travel all over the world to try and keep Elise safe, all the while fighting Ramyaz and his minions.
For the team behind Metalsona, they want to create something special while paying tribute to the things they grew up on. But just as important, they want to have a story that’s just as fun and memorable as the gameplay. Plus, to truly harken back to the cartoons of old, they want players to get eager about what’s coming next in the game, and rush to play it every chance they get.
You might think it odd that a small studio wants to hand-draw everything in the game, but as they note, modern technology makes things easier for small studios to do big undertakings. But also, it’s the looks and feel of the game that makes Metalsona special, so they want to bring it to life in the best way possible, and that’s through drawing it all by hand.
As for the battle system, it’ll be tried-and-true JRPG in most of its elements. But, they’re also throwing in a little Marvel Vs. Capcom in it with Assists and Special Attacks.
So, if you’re looking for an RPG that makes you feel like you’re watching an old-school anime? Metalsona is definitely for you. The project will be on Kickstarter until May 15th.
