AfreecaTV, the number one streaming platform in South Korea, continues their ongoing coverage of the Global StarCraft II League competition in Seoul. Now down to just 16 players, the event will continue this Wednesday at 2:30am PDT.
Global StarCraft II League Round of 16
Down from the round of 32, the remaining 16 StarCraft II players are all native to South Korea. That’s not a huge surprise, as in the Round of 32, 30 were from South Korea, with one player from Canada and one from Mexico.
Two major contenders have already been eliminated from the GSL 2017 tournament. Both Ryung and sOs, who made it to last year’s round of four, fell short in their respective groups, finishing 1-2 each. Stats, soO, and herO continue onward, with their sights set on the next round.
Groups A and C have a varied distribution of races among the players, while Groups B and D are a bit more lopsided. Classic finds himself as the only Protoss in a sea of Terran players in Group B, and in Group D, Maru is the only Terran among Zerg players.
The recent Super Tournament winner, herO, finds himself in Group C, along with Dear, Rogue, and ByuN. While ByuN is expected to put up a fight, herO seems poised to defeat the rest of his group and advance to the next round.
Zerg player soO, who is known for his Zerg vs. Zerg play, finds himself in Group D with two other Zerg players, Losira and Dark. He seems likely to dominate his group, as long the lone Terran in the group, Maru, doesn’t give him too much trouble.
The Global StarCraft II League will continue, with matches streaming live every Wednesday at 2:30am PDT, and Friday at 9pm PDT. To tune in, head over to AfreecaTV.
