As we already know from Blizzcon 2016 this past weekend, Diablo is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the franchise this year. To commemorate the occasion, Blizzard will be remaking the original Diablo game and adding it as an event as part of Diablo 3. The first screenshots have been revealed by Blizzard, which you can view in the gallery above. They highlight the grainy, retro feel of the first Diablo game, which comes to Diablo 3 in the form of a seasonal event known as “The Darkening of Tristam”.
This event will be a seasonal event running in January 2017, with the mode available to play in the Public Test Realm as early as this week. The remake boasts a dungeon with 16 levels, featuring the four main bosses from the game, including Diablo himself lurking at the very depths. As opposed to the event being downloadable content for Diablo 3, it will instead be a free patch running as an annual event each January. The dungeon is set to include several Easter eggs and unique rewards for players who choose to participate.
Also coming to Diablo 3 will be the Necromancer class, which will also be available to the dwellers of Sanctuary next year, as part of a paid DLC pack.
