FINAL FANTASY XIV

When building a game, the point is that people will enjoy it, be thrilled by as many aspects of it, and if possible, they’ll come back and play it over and over again. For MMORPGs this is paramount, as the game makes money off people staying and essentially doing things over and over again. One of the best ways that game developers get this to happen is through PvP. These battles let players battle each other for prizes and glory. Yet, unlike some MMORPGs, Final Fantasy XIV is actually getting praised for theirs.

Why? Because you can actually earn experience for their characters by participating in it. This has not gone unnoticed by their fanbase, especially the Reddit fanbase. This goes especially for user Stanetz, who notes that this has breathed new life into PvP for him:

“It is so refreshing having so many ppl join pvp, even if it is just for the exp.”

In comparison, certain MMORPGS like World of Warcraft or Star Wars: The Old Republic have been getting hate by their fans for their uninteresting PvP. But for Final Fantasy XIV, it seems to be doing just fine. In fact, one of the only fears among players, including Stanetz, is that Square Enix might actually take that away, and they don’t want that at all.

Many fans agree that putting EXP as a reward to play PvP is a brilliant way to get people to play it, and it seems to be working as Stanetz notes. PvP is meant to be a cornerstone of MMORPGs in many ways, and Final Fantasy XIV is finding that rare balance of desire and need to play in order to get them to do it.

“I started doing pvp becaus of this. Shatter is actually kind of fun, even though I have no clue what I’m doing,” jokes S-R-EX.

I agree with this, the queues used to be horrible, you could easily be waiting for hours and still no pop. I’m happy with this change.
