Far Cry has always been a visceral series, but when Far Cry 3 came out, it brought with a very dark and engaging story that gripped people from the word “go”. Far Cry 4 kind of lost that. But now, with Far Cry 5, the story is coming back in full swing, and a new trailer has released that proves just how brutal and personal the story is going to be. For this time, you’re going against a cult in the US, and they won’t show mercy.
The story takes place in the fiction Hope Country within Montana. In it, a man named Father Joseph Seed leads a cult known as Eden’s Gate to try and take the land they deem as their own, for it is “God” guiding them. Problem is, like a fanatical cult would, they’re resulting to all kinds of violence to ensure their way is carried out. This leads the citizens of Hope County to rally together in order to form a Resistance movement in order to stop this madness once and for all.
You play as a sheriff who is brought in to help stop Eden’s Gate, but whether you do or not is entirely up to you. You can fight with the Resistance, or choose to help Father Seed, it’s your call. Either way though, you’re going to have a brutal fight ahead of you.
The trailer shows off many of the characters you’ll meet in your journey. From the member of Eden’s Gate who are trying to convince you to join them (willingly or not), or the Resistance members who just want to take their homes back, there’s a lot of life in Hope County you’ll meet.
Also shown is the gameplay, which will not just involving taking down the cult, but various other activities you can do while in Hope County. And yes, that does include finding bears.
Far Cry 5 releases March 27th.
