Problems in video games can arise in a variety of ways and in a variety of situations. Sometimes, the weirdest bugs are the ones you just never see coming. They’re still serious bugs most of the time, but you can’t help but laugh at the irony of the situation. This is currently what is happening in the Elder Scrolls Online. For you see, the recent expansion into Morrowind seems to have caused a bit of an odd bug in regards to character creation. It…won’t let some people make new characters on consoles.
Now, to be clear, this is not a situation that affects everyone. Many players have had no issues with this. However, certain situations have made it so that if you don’t already own Morrowind on consoles, there will be a button to buy it blocking your ability to create characters. This is what happened to Reddit user CannyFatcher, who is wondering when this may be fixed:
“Currently, if you have not purchased morrowind on console, you cannot create a new character as the ‘Buy Morrowind’ option is blocking it out, do we have any word on when this will be fixed?”
Further testimony by other players reveals that this bug occurs if you have 7 characters already made, and want to make an 8th character (or more) for Elder Scrolls Online. Though Zenimax has stated that there are other situations in which this is called.
You see, CannyFetcher contacted Zenimax, and they confirmed that this was happening to many Elder Scrolls Online players, and that they’re working out how to fix this odd bug. Many players were surprised not only by this bug, but that Zenimax was already working on it.
“The very fact that they acknowledge the problem and say a fix is coming is more than we get for other serious issues,” notes player Bersilak.
Regardless, if you’re experiencing this bug, don’t panic, it’ll be fixed soon. You don’t have to purchase Morrowind to play ESO or get another character created.
