FINAL FANTASY XIV summoners will finally be able to change the appearance of their pets with the introduction of Egi glamours.
Starting on patch 3.5, Summoners will be able to change how their Egi look by using a chat command. Ifrit, Titan, and Garuda can be changed into either an Emerald Carbuncle, a Topaz Carbuncle, or a Ruby Carbuncle upon completion of the quest “An Egi by Any Other Name”. Upon executing the chat command, the selected Egi will have its appearance changed the next time it is summoned and such data will persist after the player logs out. In order to change to another Egi glamour, the summon must be withdrawn, a new command must be entered, and the desired pet must be recast. Furthermore, the glamour will not take effect in PvP areas and the data is saved to the player’s client of choice, thus not transferable between platforms.
Egi glamours have been speculated by players for a while. Many showed interest in being able to fight alongside a Carbuncle, the first type of summon the class Arcanist gains access to. Arcanists then branch into either Summoners or Scholars upon reaching level 30 and then 15 on Thaumaturge and Conjurer respectively. The advanced jobs make use of either Egi (Summoners) or fairies (Scholars) and due to Arcanist’s limited use in end-game content, players don’t have many chances to reunite with their fox-like companions. Square Enix intends to make more Egi glamours available in the future.
Additionally, patch 3.5 will also bring changes to the Party Finder feature of FINAL FANTASY XIV. Players will be able to form and maintain cross-world parties as well as private parties with fellow adventurers within the same world or in other worlds. The following features will be available in cross-world parties: party chat, Duty Finder registration, Raid Finder registration, and Ready Check. Meanwhile, other features will not be available whilst the player is part of a cross-world party, such as alliance formation, custom matches registration, the “Sort Party List” function, and the offering of actions such as Protect and Teleport.
FINAL FANTASY XIV is available for Windows PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Its second expansion, titled Stormblood, is set to release on June 20 for Windows PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4.
