Gaming behemoth Square Enix is finally getting in on the blocky, pixelly goodness and have released Dragon Quest Builders to the questioning masses for pre-purchase. Dragon Quest Builder sounds, well, fairly straightforward and seems like a polished mash-up of two extremely popular games. Wager a guess?
The game is set in Alefgard, a place that should ring a bell for fans familiar with the Dragon Quest universe.
Avoiding spoilers, the game bases off the original story and runs with a parallel ending wherein the hero falls for a trap that then allowed monsters to take over.
A long time has passed since this tragedy, and a new hero steps up and tries to rebuild Alefgard using materials he finds around the world.
Players will be able to build up camps using materials they can find, including wood, fruit, rock, slime, plants and other fun stuff. The camp gains experience based on how much it’s built up.
Similar to most of its genre, the world is built of blocks that players can manipulate to create structures or use for recipes.
This seems like an awesome chance to at least experience the rich world of Dragon Quest in blocky, sandbox form and manipulate it on a whim.
Wield the hammer and be the hero that helps Alefgard rise up from the ashes.
