The Dissidia franchise has always been the go-to games for Final Fantasy fans who wanted to put some of their favorite characters against each other in epic fights. However, there was one major restriction, it was on the PSP, and thus a lot of people didn’t get the opportunity to play it. But now, Square Enix via Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja are making a console version of the beloved games, but with a few twists. Including a few that were revealed in the latest trailer of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT.
First up, the new trailer reveals why the Final Fantasy characters have been brought to the world to fight one another. Turns out, the goddess character who brought them is actually trying to save the world. However, the only way to do so is to gather energy that is only born through combat (how convenient). What’s more, she can’t generate this energy herself, so she needs the heroes to do it, else the world will fall to The Void.
What’s also of note story wise is that not all the characters are on board with just being summoned to do combat, which makes sense when you think about it. But, as the trailer also shows, fights will happen, including against legendary Final Fantasy villains. But, Square Enix has also revealed that for the first time, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will feature Hero vs. Summon battles. That’s right, the creatures you’ve summoned to aid you in past Final Fantasy games are now going to be your opponents.
Finally, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT revealed its latest playable character, Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV. And he wields weapons and abilities that are pulled straight from his game.
Will you be able to save the world? You’ll find out when Dissidia Final Fantasy NT arrives January 30th, 2018.
