With the advancements of gaming comes questions that would never have been asked in the original generations. The purpose of graphics over gameplay, the idea of how much DLC should be in a game, patches and their frequency. There’s a lot to consider. But perhaps one of the biggest ones is, “What do you prefer? Digital or physical games?” Meaning, do you prefer to get a physical disc or cartridge to put into your system, or do you just digitally download your game and play it that way. For Destiny players, this was a question brought up in talking about the sequel.
On the Destiny forums, a player brought up the question of whether the Destiny 2 Collector’s Edition should have a digital download code instead of a physical disc. The player then posed the question of what the other players prefer: Physical or Digital.
Some players noted that they would do either, though they do have preferences:
“I would lug around a disk for destiny if I have to but I’d really prefer it digitally,” said player A Banana Peel.
For others, it wasn’t even a tough call, they prefer digital above all else. One player even noted that he had an external hard drive that housed all his digital games. Thus, if he lost his console somehow, he could just plug the hard drive into another system and instantly be good to play again.
A few players noted that for them, they just like having the feeling of the disc in their hand. And in some ways, it doesn’t matter which you have, because you can’t play either until the developer lets you on launch day. And for some, it’s more of an issue of what the game can do for you after its served its purpose:
“You can’t trade in a digital copy,” says Ersatz Lord.
