Destiny 2 is a very interesting case when you consider how developer Bungie has handled things. The promise of a sequel better than the original was…we…promising. But then, the game turned out to be not only extremely different, but it ignored many of the things that fans wanted from the game. Then, when changes were finally promised, fans let their guard down…long enough for the Curse of Osiris DLC to make sure they never went down again. As the DLC had content-locked many things behind a paywall, even the things that were originally free.
Naturally, players revolted, and demanded that Bungie make most of it free to play again, and thankfully, today, the patch that would make that happen has come. So now, you can take part in the Iron Banner and Faction Rally events without the need to have Curse Of Osiris. To be clear, there are some things that will still be tied to the DLC, but it’s events and items that are directly tied to it, and not loosely tied to it like Iron Banner and Faction Rally.
Though this will be a major relief to some players, it still doesn’t solve the majority of problems that Destiny 2 has. For example, the endgame content is incredibly light, and players find themselves bored after the main story is done. What’s more, getting weapons is a chore, and the weapons themselves lack the variety of the original game. And this is still only the tip of the iceberg in regards to what players want from Bungie in terms of fixes this year.
Players have been very vocal on social media, and especially on Reddit, where numerous threads have been dedicated to what Bungie did wrong with the sequel. That’s a lot of hate, and it’s going to take a while to get that goodwill back. If it ever is returned.
