Fairytale Distillery, Das Tal’s developer, launched their Summer Alpha last Saturday. So how did it go? Well, Game Director Alexander Zacherl finally got enough sleep and he’s here to tell us all about the goods and the bads of the alpha!
Let’s kick things off with the goods. Thousands of players heard the call of Das Tal and raided the servers on Saturday. The server capacity was doubled to endure all of the players barging in. Four servers were available , and the players mostly explored the north part of the map, so most settlements were claimed by clans so we can expect great battles for land this weekend. Sebi, Marcus, Eric and Alex provided support 24/7. They answered over 750 support requests so, pretty much all of them, except a few due to a faulty web server.
Now let’s talk about the bads. The server starts were slightly delayed. The first EU and the first US server were an hour late. This was the build server’s fault, as it was having a pretty bad day and was slower than expected. The second thing were the really long loading queues in the early days. Players had to wait for hours in the login queue, and that was really annoying. This happened because the new gameplay code wasn’t tested enough, so when a high amount of players started the tutorial all at the same time, the servers were packed, so queues were made in order for people to go through the tutorials in smaller groups.
There are loads of other things, but it’s too much to cover all of it here, so go to the official post if you want all the details!
