Could Nintendo Use A “Beat’em Up RPG” Franchise?

One of the quintessential features of Nintendo is that they have a vast variety of titles and franchises. What’s more, their first-party franchises often don’t reside in the same gameplay genre. If you look across the board, you’ll see platformers, adventure games, puzzle games, 1st and 3rd person shooters, racing titles, fighting games, and several varieties of RPGs. Yet, some are pointing out that there is one kind of RPG that hasn’t been done yet by Nintendo, or at least, not in the 1st party way: Beat’em Up RPG.

This idea comes from Reddit User PacMoron, who is a diehard in this genre, and would love to see them come to Nintendo in the future:

“Imagine a game in the game style as Castle Crashers, Dungeon Fighter Online, Dragon’s Crown, or Legend of Mana on the Switch! Deep RPG mechanics, a variety of interesting characters, tons of dungeons, and a signature Nintendo colorful art style.”

Aas he notes, it would fit perfect with the recent trend of Nintendo supporting their games for a long time via content updates like what they’re doing with Splatoon and ARMS.

PacMoron feels that this kind of retro game would be perfect for the Switch as the mobility of the system makes it a perfect pick-up-and-go, and then you can play with friends as well.

Now, the Redditors who replied to this idea were very behind it. However, one person noted that a game like this has been released on the Nintendo 3DS recently in Ever Oasis, which was actually made by the creator of Legend of Mana. But, that isn’t for Switch. Either way though, it is an intriguing question, could they use another major franchise under their belt? More is always better. What do you think?

But if you don’t like Nintendo, you’re going down! lol
