The creativity and variety of video game Kickstarter projects never cease to amaze, as new and familiar things are shown that truly do inspire people to back their project. Take for example Oniri Islands. On the surface, it looks like just another co-op adventure game. But in fact, it’s one that gives you and lets you use toys of the characters to do things in the game. That’s something pretty bold for a Kickstarter project.

Oniri Islands is being developed for tablets, which is where the toys come in, because you use the toys to place your characters both in the game, and move them to other islands in it! Making it a truly interactive experience instead of just a game. Plus, you use the toys in gameplay as well, so it’s not just a gimmick, it’s a full-on part of the game.

If you’re wondering, “Why toys?”, the team was all too happy to answer that. You see, they wanted to create a truly unique experience, one that combined both board game and video game aesthetics and gameplay features to make something special. They were inspired by both adventure games of the past like Monkey Island and Sword & Sorcery, as well as inspired by the toys-to-games line like the Amiibo and Disney Infinity figurines, but they wanted to go far beyond what they did, so they did!

The team is committed to giving you the full experience with the toys with this Kickstarter, as they’re giving you 7 toys when you get the game box. You’ll get the main characters, Tim and Mina, along with five masks that’ll give them special abilities once you put them on the character and touch the screen.

Orini Islands is halfway through its Kickstarter at the time of this posting, and is getting pretty close to its funding goal. If this sounds like something fun that you’d like to play, please consider supporting them.
