For a video game developer, especially one that has a game that features online capability, one of their biggest focuses is that they need to try and keep players interested. Not just to bring them back, but to keep them playing. This means making every mode feel special, and every event feel balanced in regards to who’s playing. For Warframe, the development team is trying to make sure player clans are active during Clan Events, and as such, are “punishing” those who aren’t active in their clans in regards to how scoring for the event is done.
This puts clan leaders in an uncomfortable position. Do they keep the “inactive” members on board or do they kick them out so that they have a better chance in the event? For Warframe player TrouNoir, he doesn’t get this decision. He’s been playing the game for a while and remembered when scoring didn’t matter about who wasn’t playing, but who was. To him, this decision doesn’t improve the game:
“What’s the motivation to force Warlords like myself to downsize clans and kick inactive members because they might not have been able to play for a few weeks, or less skilled members who can’t score as high as we need them to? In what way does this make the game more fun or accessible?”
He goes on to note that if he follows the directive from the dev team to prepare the clan for the upcoming Ambulas event, he’d have to kick 144 people out of his clan. That’s not fair in his mind, and he’d rather not get the rewards than kick them all out.
Other Warframe players weighed in on this. Some thought what the dev team is doing is fair. After all, this is called a “Clan Event”, and if the clan isn’t fully active, why should the event be called that?
But, there are others who think that friendship and loyalty tops rewards and activity:
“I have friends in my clan from way back before my warframe days. DE basically tells me to kick them out because they don’t have time to play a lot right now in order to have better chances at the event…”
