In every generation of video games, there are titles that stand out from the crowd. Whether it’s a visual wonder, a storytelling masterpiece, a gameplay experience to do over and over again, or a combination of the three, they stand out. However, only a few of those titles go on to be considered one of the greatest games of all time. While every list is different, it just depends on the person or group of people making the list, there are a few games that always pop up in these lists. And one of them just appeared on Steam, Chrono Trigger.
This masterpiece from the SNES era helped propel RPGs into a whole new stratosphere. The visual, the gameplay, the story, the multiple endings, all of this helped make Chrono Trigger one of the must-have games on SNES. And as time went on, its appreciation grew, so much so that Square Enix ported it to many more consoles and handhelds. And now, it’s on PC.

But…there is a twist in this tale. You see, Square Enix didn’t bring the 3DS version of the game to Steam. Instead, they brought the iOS version of the game, which is not well liked by the fanbase. In fact, they’re now bashing Square Enix for making a “cheap port” instead of bringing the “true” version of the game to PC and Steam. You have to wonder what they were thinking, as this is a a beloved title, and Steam is one of the most accessible gaming platforms out there. Why put out a lesser quality port on it?
Guess we’ll never know.
