The upcoming MMORPG Ship of Heroes has unveiled a brand new custom character creator video, which is set to be implemented into the game. The developers over at Heroic Games have built this mechanic from the ground up, and their impeccable work is seeing them fast track towards a release.
This character creation tool introduces character models using the Unreal Engine 4 and iClone, which have aided it into bringing an extensive set of customization options including varied skeletal structures, appearance options and much more for players to build their unique characters with. Player animations are also a heavy focus for that extra touch of authenticity, with special attention being paid to make sure the character poly-counts are staying within their predetermined ranges without quality being sacrificed.
The character creator boasts subsurface mapping, customizable retinal textures to a high level, more detailed hair thanks to the Unreal Engine, and APEX physics for said hair to move realistically, which will also be applied to clothing and capes.
Also, Heroic Games have gone to the extent of custom coding each piece of clothing, which will ultimately reduce clipping from overlaying costume parts. This will also see 300 individual character morphs, which are outlined in the video below, which could potentially rise to a planned 1,000. There is plentiful room for color customization too, featuring primary and secondary colors for each piece.
Finally, the character creator will allow players to select up to ten clothing or costume pieces for their character. These include helmets, shoulders, arms, hands, chest, pants, belt, feet and underwear. There will be a large variety of clothing selection on offer, with more to be added as the game continues to expand.
