It’s funny how we find out about new video games. Sometimes they’re via trademark patents, sometimes they’re via leaks, and sometimes, you find job postings that reveal that something is coming. That’s exactly what’s happened with Blizzard. The studio has posted a job opening that confirms they working on a new video game title for the mobile market. While they haven’t produced many games in that sector, they do have Hearthstone to show their track record for success.
What makes this curious is that this is the second confirmed new project that Blizzard is working on. The other was also found out via a job listing about a new game engine. And it’s rumored that, like Hearthstone, this mobile game is set in the universe of Warcraft. But that as of yet is still a rumor.
The job listing itself is for an FX Artist. “Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented FX artist to help us create exciting visual effects for an unannounced project for mobile.”
The listing states that the game is going to be made in the Unity 3D engine, and applicants should be knowledgeable about making effects for various types of mobile platforms. Another interesting note is the line that says applicants should have, “a passion for exploring new ideas in mobile gaming.” Does that mean that we should expect something not only very different from Hearthstone, but something different from the standard kind of mobile game?
It’s very curious to be sure, and given that work is being done on it now presumably it makes us wonder just when we might hear more about this new mobile project. Is it indeed tied to the Warcraft universe? Or is it maybe set in another? We’ll have to wait and see.
