The beauty of long-running franchises is that most of the time, you can expect greatness from them, especially when they’ve been producing quality video games for years. For the Pokémon franchise, this definitely applies. What started over 20 years ago became a phenomenon that continues to this day. But this raises a good question. If you’re going to be starting Pokémon for the first time, which game do you start with?
This comes from Reddit user FiveFingersAndANub, who happens to be a mother. Her daughter loves Pokémon GO, and has a bunch of merchandise from the brand because of it. She wants to expand her gaming experience by getting her a 2DS XL with one of the main titles.
“I’m a bit older, so I never played thePokemonn games and am a bit out of touch with newer games. What do you think is the best game for her to start with?”
Now, you might be thinking, “get her the latest one!” but it’s not that simple. Plus, she asked for a simple Pokémon title. Also, the 3DS had two different regions of Pokémon games which fans know are vastly different from one another.
There’s the X/Y series, which was the handhelds first attempt at full-on 3D graphics for the main series. This one also brought a somewhat deeper story to thing, and refined the standard mechanics for intense fighting/raising of Pokémon. But, then there’s Sun/Moon, a game which totally revamped the series on its own, and created a whole new way to play via the Island Challenge. Fans praised not just the new region, but the new style.
So, which game would be the best to start with? On one hand, many of the Pokémon games play like X/Y, but, Sun/Moon might be a more deep experience. What do you think she should choose? Let us know in the comments below.
