Star Wars Battlefront II is making a lot of promises to its fans, or, potential fans. But one thing they’re guaranteeing to show off very soon is a look at the new space combat mode for the game. Space combat debuted in the original Battlefront II on the PS2, and had players taking the role of pilots in 2 different eras of Star Wars as they battled both enemy fighters, and key ships that needed to be destroyed. And now, the mode is getting an overhaul in a major way, including a new mode called Starfighter Assault.
So, what will be shown off at Gamescom? Well, the mode itself will be in full view, but that’s not all. You’ll get to see via stream the first ever look at the Fondor Imperial Shipyard level, which seems like a pretty good place for a dogfight. The mode will also feature three eras of ships from the Star Wars universe, both on the side of heroes and villains. What’s more, there will be different classes of ships, which is accurate to the movies, but you can also customize your ships as well.

It seems that EA and DICE are truly trying to make Battlefront II something special in every aspect of the game. Which is good, because though space combat was good in the original title, the combat kind of got repetitive. But with the advancements in modern technology in gaming, this new mode could be a boon for space combat, and even just aerial combat. And that’s not even talking about the campaign mode, all the other multiplayer modes, and the potential surprises that EA and DICE have in store for us.
So, tune into Gamescom on the 21st to see what else is revealed!
