Ashes of Creation was hoping for something big when it launched on Kickstarter in May. But you have to wonder if even they expected to do this well. The “next-gen MMORPG” set out to get $750,000, but nearly 20,000 backers later and they were able to get $3.2 million raised. Of course, now begins the long and harrowing journey of actually getting the game made and then giving it to players. But the first step is indeed the hardest when it comes to things like this, and getting this much raised was a blessing for them for sure.
One of the other things that makes the $3.2 million earned so special is that they achieved every single stretch goal that they set out to make. Ashes of Creation had a slew of things that could be added, and now all of them will be. We’re talking things like Parlor Games, Cute Small Pets, Group Mounts, a Backer-Only Weapon Skin, Enhanced Naval Combat, a Backer-Only Armor Skin, The Underrealm, Back Only Aquatic Mount, Social Organizations, Backer-Only Dye Set, a New Underrealm Race, Backer-Only Mount Barding, Backer-Only Special FX and even a Stock Exchange. That’s a lot of extra content.
But as noted, now the journey to bring Ashes of Creation to life in full has come. The game is being designed so that players have a say in everything that happens. From the cities being built, to the wars that are waged, to the story that is told, to the economy that is bought and sold. Clearly their ideas won over a lot of people. Now we’ll have to wait and see if it delivers.
