Would You Play an MMORPG Set in the Legend Of Zelda Universe?

Since nearly the beginning, The Legend Of Zelda has been regarded as one of the most beloved and respected gaming franchises out there. It has wowed people on both the consoles and handhelds that it’s been on. What’s more, as technology grew, so did the franchise. It went from a top-down 2D adventure game to a full-blows 3D open-world franchise. And with the recent arrival of Breath of the Wild (which is going to be a serious Game of the Year nominee), players are falling in love with the franchise all over again.

And yet, with BOTW, there’s another question that needs to be asked. Could the Legend of Zelda work as an MMORPG? Because BOTW did a lot of things that could lead one to think it could work. For example, instead of eight main temples and a boss fight, there were hundreds of mini-dungeons scattered throughout the land. Add to that, the game had innumerous sidequests and journies that Link could take. Sound familiar?

Legend of Zelda

Tthe obvious thing would need to be discussed is that of the “main character”. Legend of Zelda is almost always about Link, and in an MMORPG setting, that wouldn’t fly. Everyone can’t be Link, it wouldn’t make sense. Thankfully, the series does have a plethora of races that we could be. Deku’s, Goron’s, Zora’s, Sheikah, Gerudo, and more. Each one is already built differently in both visuals, personality, and combat style. And as Majora’s Mask showed us, it’s really fun to play as these other races in the universe.

The other question is about content, could Nintendo (or whoever they hire to potentially make this happen) really make it worthwhile to the extent that player play it every day? Well, it just depends, we know that Nintendo makes great games, and if they did decide to do this, especially with the reputation of Legend of Zelda on the line, they’ll likely seek out some big MMORPG experts to help make it happen, and content would be a big thing for those people.

We know we’re only speculating, and it’ll likely not happen, but hey, nothing wrong with dreaming, right?

But if you don’t like Nintendo, you’re going down! lol
