AdventureQuest 3D developer Artix Krieger reveals in a November 8 devlog his obsession for the hit HBO TV series Westworld.
The HBO sci-fi drama Westworld hooked viewers with its slick visuals and dark elements. The most basic existential questions (“to be, or not to be?”) are brought to another level as we witness the “hosts” discovering themselves in this magnificent theme park modeled after the Wild West. But, just like Sword Art Online made we scratch our heads a few years ago, Artix brings to our attention an interesting proposition: could Westworld be the future of MMOs?
“[…] Westworld is a show about the most realistic and immersive MMO ever created. Imagine if there was a real life Town of Battleon, and every character you ever saw in our games was there–really there–and they looked so real, you would never dream that they were actually robots. […] “
The show is based on the 1973 film of the same name, written and directed by Michael Crichton. And as amazing as that would be, no, HBO is not paying Artix (or us at MMOExaminer for covering it) to talk about it.
In the devlog, Artix teases a little something regarding an area in AdventureQuest 3D called Acevorah, saying:
“Originally we were just going to release it as a storyless farming area, but things are getting interesting.”
Furthermore, a special mini-zone is scheduled to be released next week to keep players engaged while waiting for the Volcanic Dragon area and story. Artix also points out that “our philosophy is that main area content should be at a fixed level. Special events and bonus side content should scale so that you can play through them at any level.”
