Nintendo held their earnings report and unveiled tons of information about the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo 3DS. From sales numbers to projections, to expectations, everything was covered. However, some of the finer details may be the ones that some fans may be most interested in. You see, one Reddit user found in the report a confirmation of a highly anticipated game that’s slated for a 2017 release. According to user Feeoree, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is still coming out in 2017.
Now, to be clear, the user didn’t know if “2017” mean the literal calendar year, or the fiscal business year (which would go until next March). Both are possible, and both are terms used by Nintendo in the past.
So, why is this such a big deal? Well, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was mentioned for the Nintendo Switch at its major reveal event back in January. Add to that, there are many players who are fond of the Xenoblade franchise. The original was released in the US because of a massive fan movement that all but demanded the games release. Then, it’s sequel, Xenoblade Chronicles X, is widely hailed as one of the best, and most beautiful, Wii U games ever. So getting a third game in the lineup is pretty epic, and that we’re potentially getting it in the first year of the Switch’s release is pretty big.
Despite this apparent good news, a lot of other Redditors aren’t sold. In fact, many are in the camp of “I’ll believe it when I see it.” And though that sounds defeatist, it’s actually rather fair. Nintendo fans know that the company will delay a game to make it great. Gamers went through this for years with Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and though that delay made it worth it, it wasn’t any less painful to wait for it.
