Indie games of all shapes and sizes hit Kickstarter. The crowdfunding platform is famous (and even infamous) for bringing in game studios of all shapes and sizes to try and make games of all shapes and sizes. From new studios to veterans like Double Fine, if the potential is there, it can be funded. In fact, some of the most funded Kickstarters belong to video games. Now, we have one more successful video game Kickstarter: Voodoo: Open-World Survival In Primal Africa.
While it certain is a mouthful to say, Voodoo very much is a very unique game. It games a unique visual style with old and new styles of gameplay to make something…well, unique. The game is actually a multiplayer experience, but it pays homage to one of the greatest single player games ever: Shadow of the Colossus, thus bringing a blending of styles all around. Here’s a taste of the combat:
In the game, you are reborn in primal Africa, and you must quickly adapt to survive the harsh environments, creatures, giants, and even other players if you hope to survive in this vast world.
The combat is a big focus, and much like Shadow of the Colossus, it takes place on many stages. There’s simple ground combat, then there’s much large scale combat. But also, you’re charged with sparking your own survival. You must make your own tools and weapons, get your own food, and defend yourself, otherwise, Africa will swallow you whole.
The Kickstarter still has 8 days left at the time of this posting, and already passed its goal by a good amount. So if you’re up for a new, truly unique game, you might want to support the devs as well.
