The final hours of a Kickstarter can be either very stressful (ok, they’re always stressful), or they can also bring a new light to the project. Why? Well, if it’s funded, or close to being funded, people will often pledge so that they know they’re getting the rewards promised in the Kickstarter. The visual novel and dating sim Faulty Apprentice is in its final hours, and it’s hit its funding goal in spades, so you might want to see if this is for you.
First up, the visual novel aspect. For those who don’t know, a visual novel game is one that has stylized art and focuses on story and characters above all else. That’s not to say there isn’t gameplay or combat, just that it’s not the focus. In this title, you play as a Faulty Apprentice. You were just a farm boy, but you’ve bounced around from job to job and now you are an apprentice at a castle.
As you rise up in your apprenticeship and explore the 15 locations the game offers, you’ll be able to learn new skills, gain new strength, and arguably just as important, meet a lot of interesting characters. Several of which you can date.
That’s right, you can date your instructors depending on how you grow your relationship with them. Each of course has a unique personality, quirks, and skills. And you’ll have the chance to romance them by talking to them and more. Plus, because the Kickstarter has done so well, there will be more options of characters you date, including the Royal Commander.
The plan for the team is to get the funds and then simply bring the game together. They have a demo and a lot of the artwork done, they just need to do a little more to really make it a game. Once ready, Faulty Apprentice will release on PC, Mac, and Linux.
