The Rock Talks Being Black Adam

Black Adam

When the DCEU was made, a slate of 10 movies based on DC Comics characters were laid out. Easily one of the biggest shocks was that SHAZAM! (a classic character who has a cult following more-or-less) was in that original ten. The shocks continued for that film when it was announced that The Rock, aka Dwayne Johnson, was selected to be the anti-hero/villain Black Adam.

Today, the Rock went onto his own channel to talk about anything they wanted via a Q&A session. Not surprisingly, the Black Adam role was brought up. The Rock noted that for him, he just loved the story behind Black Adam. That he was a slave who wanted to free his country, was given powers to do so, but then was “betrayed” by the ones who gave him that power, and was sealed away. Interestingly, The Rock referred to Black Adam as “an interesting superhero”, even though he’s technically not that in most interpretations.

Now to be fair, he has been seen as heroic many times. Including a recent major DC Comics arc during the New 52 era called “Forever Evil”. He was one of the few that stood up against the Earth-3 Crime Syndicate. Not blinking when they called our Earth theirs, and rushing off to stop them. Nor did he falter when he was beaten by Ultraman, and quickly rose back up to fight.

The other interesting thing here, is that this film is slated for a 2019 release, yet no other casting has been made. Such as the titular SHAZAM! (aka Billy Batson or Captain Marvel/SHAZAM!). Nor has a director been attached. If this film is to take place, something definitely should be happening soon. Just for the record, one of the masterminds of the DCEU is Geoff Johns, who is a BIG SHAZAM!/Black Adam fan. So if he has any say? It’ll happen.

I am a writer, reader, dreamer, and believer that games and cartoons and comics aren't a bad way to live. I am passionate about what I love, but do respect the opinions of others when they conflict with my own. But if you don't like Nintendo, you're going down! lol
