When it comes to games that have a lot of playable characters, there needs to be a certain level of balance in regards to how those characters stack up against one another. While it’s ok for some characters or even classes to do well against one another, it doesn’t mean they should do well against all classes and characters. If the ability of a character is so strong that it can one-hit kill just about anyone, then it should be nerfed. Overwatch experienced this recently with their champion Roadhogg. But now, Hanzo is in the crosshair.
For those who don’t know, Hanzo is an archer in the game, but with a more modern/magical/scientific skillset depending on how you want to look at things. One of his best abilities is the Scatter Arrow, which allows Him to shoot 6 arrows at once. The catch is that each arrow does the same amount of damage. While that wouldn’t be a problem if the damage was low, Battle.net players reveal it’s just the opposite:
“Every single scatter arrow is doing a flat amount of 75 dmg, so you can basically deal 450 dmg when all arrows hit one target,” Tsakuo007 said.
What’s worse in the minds of players is that this technique is meant to be a charged attack. Yet, the arrows do 75 damage per hit no matter what stage of charging you’re at.
For characters who don’t have a lot of speed or ability to avoid attacks quickly, this is a problem. For example, the upcoming character Orisa, who is built to be a tank, can be one-shot by Hanzo’s Scatter Arrow. As user Boobo mentions, “I got one shot by a scatter arrow in my toe with full hp.”
It’s possible that Hanzo will get nerfed, but this is also a big deal for characters like Orisa, who are still undergoing changes in the PTR before being released. Overwatch director Jeff Kaplan has stated that Orisa won’t be released for a little bit because they’re still finding bugs on her.
