The legendary Blue Bomber is going into 2017 celebrating a number of anniversaries, sparking rumors of what fans of the classic Mega Man franchise could possibly see before the year is out.

2017 marks Mega Man X’s 25th anniversary, Mega Man Zero’s 15th and Mega Man Legends’ 20th, giving Capcom a prime opportunity to celebrate the series in a number of ways. With that in mind, what else could we possibly see from Mega Man over the coming months?

30th Anniversary Amiibo

According to users on Reddit, there is potential that we could see the release of a new Mega Man Amiibo to celebrate the occasion. The ties between both Mega Man and Nintendo are nothing new in recent years in particular, given his appearance in the most recent Super Smash Bros game, which saw the release of an accompanying Amiibo, not to mention the introduction to Mega Man levels into Mario Maker.

On a recent Reddit post which questioned the possiblity, Nikster31 Man replied:

Definitely, no question. Perhaps they can do something similar to that if a new Mega Man game gets released for the Switch. Only question is how would it look as a character in Mario Maker?

Mega Man 11/Anniversary Collections

Speaking of new games, there is always the possibility of bringing a new entry to the franchise. Whether this is in the form of Mega Man 11, or bringing another collection of older games similar to Mega Man: Legacy Collection remains to be seen.

In 2016, Capcom conducted a survey, reaching out to fans to see what game they’d like to see next in the series. Whilst the results of the survey remained private, we might hear more about their plans now we are in 2017.

Animated Series and Merchandise

Onto a couple of things that lean on the side of definite now, as the planned animated series is scheduled to air this year, courtesy of Man of Action Studios. The 26-episode show will air on Disney XD in North America, and will focus on Mega Man’s new robot school-boy alter-ego Aki Light.

As for merchandise, a number of different product lines are being produced to commemorate the previously mentioned anniversaries, with Capcom recruiting license partners to bring these items to their loyal fanbase. As to what they are and when they will be released is yet to be announced, but keep your eyes peeled for more information.

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite

One thing that is for sure is the blue guy making an appearance in the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite.

Alongside Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Morrigan and Ryu, Mega Man X was among the few characters to be announced at an early stage in the game’s development. The next entry in the frantic inter-promotional fighting franchise is penned for release sometime later this year.

I want the people at Capcom to do thier jobs and make a new Megaman game.

That is if they’re competent enough.

While there is going to be a new collection game and a bunch of partnerships to create new merchandise, statues and figurines. I just wish Capcom helps lift mega man out of the back ally of forgotten and makes a proper game to celebrate 30 years. Also, I think Megaman x’s 25th is 2018 and not 2017

I really like the original megaman and X series (played them when I was young)

However, I would be grateful if capcom could revamp the star force series.
It is the one that seems to have ended abruptly despite having lots of potential like the battle network series.

For instance, capcom can implement a real-time action/adventure game like monster hunter style, while keeping the original battle-chip system.

However, given the trend, we may only be seeing merchandise/statues and additional stuff to earns some bucks from megaman die-hard fans
