Riot Games have always been a video game company that listens to their fans. In fact, that’s one of the reasons why League of Legends is one of the most successful games around. But also, they know that their fans come in all shapes, sizes, and skill sets. One of such unique skill sets out there is costuming, or as many call it, cosplay.
Because of that, the team at Riot Games held their first ever Cosplay lab, where they invited cosplayers who have done very cool League of Legends cosplays in the past, and brought them to their studios for a workshop on how to be even better with their costumes. This workshop took place over three days and taught classes on how to make props or armor, how to design parts of cosplay outfits, and just the art of cosplay itself.
40 cosplayers of various skills, but all a positive part of the League of Legends community, were brought in, and it was instantly clear to the Riot Games team that this was going to be fun as that these cosplayers were happy to be in each other’s company.
Not only were these ladies and gentlemen excellent to each other, they helped make the workshop they were provided their own, even leaving little bits of art for the team to find later on.
Yet, there was work to be done. The cosplayers were divided into teams and assigned a special cosplay project that would not only test their skills but their teamwork ability. This came after many classes on how to improve their craft. Using those skills, all teams were able to complete their projects and were later given the honor of having a fashion show to present their projects and individual cosplays.
Though the lab is over, the team at Riot Games couldn’t be happier with how it turned out, and they hope to make more of these Cosplay Labs in the future.
