On New Year’s Eve, the Heavensturn event makes a comeback to FINAL FANTASY XIV.

From Saturday, December 31 through Monday, January 16, FINAL FANTASY XIV players will have a chance to take part in the Heavensturn for a chance at exclusive rewards. The seasonal event celebrates its fifth edition since the release of FINAL FANTASY XIV and its third since the release of A Realm Reborn.

Those wishing to attend the event may speak to Tori Bugyo in the Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks, more specifically at X: 11.5, Y: 13.9 (the plaza outside the Drowning Wench, also known as the Aftcastle), to start the quest “A Thousand Blows”. The event rewards include unique and untradable items such as the Red Tori Kabuto, the Black Tori Kabuto, the tabletop decoration Happy New Chocobo, and the Heavensturn Orchestrion Roll containing the event’s theme tune. Additionally, the items available in previous iterations of Heavensturn will be purchasable at the Seasonal Shop.

FINAL FANTASY XIV is the second MMORPG in the long-running JRPG franchise developed and published by Square Enix. First released in 2010 for Windows PC, the game was met with heavy criticism from players and critics alike for its unfinished state, numerous technical difficulties, odd mechanics, and poorly laid out maps. Its original development team was replaced and the new director, Naoki Yoshida, suggested that rebuilding the title was the only way to address its many issues as most of its problems were directly related to the game’s engine, which also powers the entirety of the FINAL FANTASY XIII trilogy.

The fourteenth main installment in the series was then re-released with the subtitle A Realm Reborn and has ever since garnered critical acclaim as well as remaining one of the most relevant MMORPGs of its generation. With its first expansion being a commercial success and the second due to June 20, 2017, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn is available for Windows PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4.
