While all of the Nintendo Switch news has everyone in a frenzy, Nintendo still wants to keep its current money maker, the Nintendo 3DS, active and afloat. While a number of ports of Wii U games including Super Mario Maker and Yoshi’s Wooly World have already been announced, no Animal Crossing news has hit the world for some time. Until this Nintendo Direct, that is.
We’ve seen the Amiibo all over the place, thanks to games like Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival and Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer but it would seem Nintendo is pushing them even further. See the full Nintendo Direct below.
For the pre-existing Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Nintendo is pushing a massive update that will allow players to use the Amiibo cards launched for the spin-off games, and summon certain villagers to a special campground exclusively for Amiibo and Special characters.
With Nintendo pushing their Amiibo lineup so heavily, and this series in particular taking up a vast majority of available Amiibo so far, it would only make sense that the company would be so adamant about selling the product for the main game.
Some, like myself, are probably still eagerly anticipating the announcement of a Switch title for the series to satiate that home console hunger. Still, this update should suffice.
The update for Animal Crossing: New Leaf is currently available for download if you already own the game!
