With the arrival of new technology, video game developers were allowed to add more and more personality to their characters. This especially became true when the jump to 3D graphics was made. As it allowed the characters to talk like real people, with voices to match. However, there are some cases where the voices don’t see to fit the body, or just the personality, of the character we’re seeing. Fans seem to think Overwatch has this problem.
To be honest, it’s not that surprising that this is happening among the fanbase. As Overwatch features a wide array of characters from different backgrounds, races, and even species. So, to have some voices that don’t match isn’t that far fetched. So, who do the fans say don’t sound like they should?
Well, the primary one seems to be Ana. According to Foxgamer55, despite having many skins, which should affect how she sounds in the game, Ana still sounds much older than she should. Some other players have even referred to her as “Granny Ana”, despite her looking young in various skins.
As the posts go on, the question becomes, “Why doesn’t Blizzard remedy this?”, to which the fans have various theories. From Blizzard being to lazy, to it costing too much to do, and so on. Though, one fan notes that indie games have several voices for the skins of characters, so for Blizzard to not do it does seem odd.
Other characters were highlighted as having mismatched voices. Including Genji, who still sounds robotic despite having skins that make him look quite the opposite.
