This year looks to be one filled with exciting releases for fans of the fighting genre. With Kilgore’s introduction to Killer Instinct, the recent release of Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 – Road to Boruto and additional recurring content in Street Fighter V Season 2 already being revealed, its looking like 2017 will be a standout year for those of you who love a good scrap.
Speaking of looking forward, here is a list of fighting games that you’ll be smashing your way through over the course of this year.
If you’ve been looking for an alternative to Super Smash bros on your Xbox One, PS4 or on Steam, then Angry Mob Games might just have what you are looking for with Brawlout.
Set out in a familiar style of the classic Nintendo brawling franchise, Brawlout features fast-paced battles on small stage platforms, as you attempt to knock your opponents off the stage using a host of animal characters, each equipped with their own abilities.
Brawlout is expected to release in Q1 2017.
Though it hasn’t been officially announced, it appears that 2017 will be the year that the hilarious Gang Beasts gets a full release.
Set to launch on PS4 and PSVR in Q1 2017, Gang Beasts sees players selecting a gelatinous character to customize, before trying to kick, punch and throw their opponents off whichever stage they are brawling through in Beef City. The game has been in Steam Early Access since 2014, and received positively so far by critics and fans alike.
In the wake of the aftermath of the first game comes Injustice 2, brought to our screens by NetherRealm Studios, the team responsible for the critically acclaimed Mortal Kombat X.
In terms of its story, Injustice 2 will build on the foundations laid down by the Gods Among Us, as Batman attempts to fend of what is left of Superman’s regime whilst dealing with an entirely new threat. Helping to build the narrative will be new characters being introduced such as Brainiac, Deadshot, Robin, Swamp Thing and others.
Fans of the previous entry and the DC universe in general will not want to miss out on Injustice 2, which releases on PS4, Xbox One, iOS and Android on May 16th.
Fans of the legendary Tekken series have been feeding off scraps in terms of a new game, resorting to playing the latest entry in arcades, watching tournament livestreams and hammering the refresh button for news of a console and PC release.
Thankfully, we now know that Tekken 7 will be heading to PS4, Xbox One and PC on June 2nd, and from what we know already its looking like it will be packing one hell of a punch. Telling the concluding tale of the Mishima family saga, which will be told via a series of cinematic scenes that will transition with the gameplay.
Adding a bunch of new characters to a classic cast of fighters, players will be indulging in a mix of old and new, even more so with the newly implemented Rage system which will see some powerful attacks being thrown around as the Mishima family feud draws to a close.
Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite
The chaos that ensued back in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is enjoying a new lease of life thanks to its release on modern generations, with a PS4 release in 2016, and an Xbox One and Steam version expected to launch in March.
This should hopefully tide fans over until the release of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, which will be taking the inter-promotional franchise back to the days of old, reverting back to the 2v2 formula rather than the 3v3 from UMC3. New features will see players using Infinity Stones to pull of devastating attacks, as well as a variety of new characters being added to the roster including Captain Marvel, Mega Man X and more.
A release date for the game is yet to be confirmed, though it is expected to arrive in 2017.
